I began to research Korean skin care steps and Korean skincare products. Even though the steps are kinda long, they have shown that with the right products for you, a big difference can be seen in the skin.

Korean Skincare Routine Steps

Until proper actions are taken to make this dream a reality, female will live their lives with premature aging followed by many other skin problems. The good news is, any woman regardless of race, age and social status can have a beautiful glowing skin.

What is the Korean Routine ?

Korean women’s daily skincare routine includes 8 to 10 steps and these women do this religiously and it shows. This is because these Korean women are known to have the finest skin in the world. Moreover, Korean women have steps for morning as well as evening routine.

Korean skincare steps for the morning:

Step 1 : Wash your face with water

Washing with water only is bountiful for the removal of overnight impurities that settles on your face. Water is also a good hydrating fluid.

Using soap or face wash dries the skin which could affect your lovely skin badly, also lead to acne, yikes!

Water is clean, and it is pure and thus the best to use for washing the face to ensure the natural oils the face need for nourishment is locked in.

After you removed your makeup with the oil cleanser use your water based face wash. Don’t just purchase any old cleanser, get one for your skin type, that will make all the difference!

If you have dry skin go with a creamy based cleanser and gel based for oily or combination skin. If your skin feels dry after washing, then girl you have the wrong cleanser, that’s not the one for you honey. Your face should always feel hydrated, NEVER dry after cleansing.

Step 2 : Apply Toner

Toners are liquid solution made with properties that balance the PH of the skin. Water alone is not enough to hydrate the skin. Thus using a toner that will ensure the PH levels of the skin is always balanced.

A good PH balance prevents dehydration of the skin. Also, toner a good base that help improve the absorption of other skin products on the next steps.

Step 3 : Essence

An essence is a water-based fusion of toner and serum. This is responsible for keeping Korean women looking youthful regardless of their age. Essence is responsible for cellular turnover and hydrate the skins’ complexion. These products are also made to suit individual skin types; dry, oily, combination, etc.

Step 4 : Ampoule

Ampoules are stable, hygienic skincare treatments that promote skin collagen with skin restoration properties. Moreover, the higher number of active ingredients targets bad skin problems correcting those concerns to ensure the skin is radiant. These are similar to serum as well.

Step 5 : Serum

Serums are water-based or oil-based skin-products with higher concentration of active ingredients. These are; ceramides, glycerin, natural ingredients (cucumber, aloe vera etc.) and vitamins like C, K, E.

Serums have the deep penetrative abilities that a responsible for giving women incredible results. Concerns like wrinkles and dark spots are tackled by the application of concentrated formulas making up serums. Korean women are said to have firmer and smoother skin and this is caused by the serums they use daily.

Step 6 : Eye cream

Due to lack of sebaceous glands around the eye there is no production of natural oils around this area. Thus, the skin around the eye is the thinnest, delicate and prone to cracking. That’s why applying eye cream ensure the eye is well-hydrated and protected.

When we age our skin makes less collagen and thus cause more wrinkles and fine line. Thus, eye cream is packed with collagen to make sure the skin maintains its elasticity.

Step 7 : Moisturizer

Moisturizers are creamy-like substance that lubricates the skin. These are also made to suit various skin types so as to prevent acne, dryness, etc.

Korean women use moisturizers on the daily routine because of its soothing properties to hydrate the skin all day long. Moisturizer need to be thinly applied over the face.

Step 8 : Sunscreen

Sunscreen protect the skin from the sunrays which can damage the skin. These can also prevent black spot, wrinkles and leathery skin and also help decrease skin cancer risk.

Contrary to the popular belief that sunscreen is applied only on sunny days, Korean women believe sunscreen MUST be applied daily. This just shows they understand many positive effects of sunscreen.

Night time Routine

Generally, they repeat most of their morning routine to ensure they go to bed with a well hydrated skin in preparation of the following morning. Also the night Korean routine is here to remove makeup on the most natural way !

Step 1: Oil-based cleanser

Oil-based makeup can easily be removed by using a cleanser that is also oil-based. when the oil from one’s skin mixes with the oil on the cleanser, all the impurities on the skin is dissolved.

Step 2: Double-cleansing

To wash-off the oil from the previous cleanser, a water-based cleanser is applied. This also ensure the skin is pure.

Step 3: Exfoliate

Exfoliating is only done 1-2 times per week in the Korean skincare routine. I am obsessed with exfoliating because it removes dead skin cells and unclogs your pores. Other benefits to exfoliating is evening out skin tone, prevent acne, and increase cell turnover. Plus, it allows all your products to to penetrate deeper into your skin! If you’re dishing out all that dough for the Korean skincare routine you might as well get the most for your buck.

The use of chemical, granular substance, or exfoliation tool in order to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin is referred to as exfoliation. This process assists the face as it naturally sheds dead skin cells every 30 days or so to make room for new cells.

Exfoliation come in handy to remove the dead cells that just can’t shed completely. If those dead cells don’t shed completely pores get clogged, skin becomes flaky and visible patches can grow. Thus exfoliation is such an important beauty routine.

People who exfoliate their skins have an even toned complexion and a better circulation. This routine is responsible for causing the glow on Korean women’s skin as their cell turnover is increased. The skin becomes so clear that absorbing other beauty product is easier.

Step 4: Toner

To keep the skins PH level at par.

Once you’re done exfoliating apply toner to close your pores and reduce the chances for pollutants and other toxins to get on your skin. Toner also adds moisture and balances your skin’s pH system.

Step 5: Essence

Next comes essence immediately after toner. Some people wonder if essence is even necessary…yes it is! Essence acts as a steroid to your serum (which is the next step). So, let’s say you purchased a serum to brighten your skin, essence boosts those benefits and gives more brightening.

The same one applied in the morning to rehydrate the skin after a long day.

Step 6: Ampoule

This prepares the skin for absorption of all the hydration in the morning.

Step 7: Serum

These have deeper penetrative effects that gives the skins firmer, smoother texture too.

There are so many serums to choose from so it is hard to just pick one, but I will. Read the label carefully before apply any serum, as some cause increased sensitivity with sun exposure, like Retinoids or Lactic Acid and are only used at night.

Step 8: Sheet mask

Sheet mask are highly favored by the Koreans and one of my favorite steps in the Korean skincare routine. These overly serum saturated fabrics are pure heaven and great for giving your skin an extra boost of hydration and glow. Whatever you are looking to target is on the front of the package. I pick masks for brightening, firming, or hydrating.

These are face-shaped sheet fabrics soaked in serum. Sheet masks are individually packaged, to be used only once. Users just apply one pack on their faces conveniently with ease.
